Projects

Dephased Quantum Tree Tensor Network
Supervisor: K. Birgitta Whaley (UCB)
Nov. 2021 – Present
  • The goal is to investigate the performance of quantum tree tensor networks in the presence of dephasing.
  • Implemented state-of-art classical convolutional neuron network methods to provide reference accuracy.
  • Modified the dephasing model based on my experience in physical models.
Bipartite Control on Open Quantum Systems
Supervisor: K. Birgitta Whaley (UCB)
Oct. 2019 – Present
  • Applied hybrid quantum-classical quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) as a bang-bang control ansatz to mitigate coherent quantum noise in physical models relevant to nitrogen vacancy centers and superconducting qubits.
  • Utilized reinforcement learning and sequential convex programming to optimize gate fidelity classically.
  • Achieved fidelity over 0.999999 for single-qubit gate implementation.
  • Developed a python package for system dynamics and control. Carried out numerical simulations on Linux computer clusters.
  • Manuscript in preparation
Vibration Assisted Energy Transfer
Supervisor: K. Birgitta Whaley (UCB) and Mohan Sarovar (Sandia National Laboratories)
Nov. 2018 – Jan. 2021
  • Investigated the Vibration Assisted electronic Energy Transfer (VAET) between two detuned qubits coupled to a vibrational mode in the presence classical noise.
  • Proved the equivalence between classical Gaussian noise and Markovian Lindblad noise in an ion trap device, which provides an effective way to experimentally use Gaussian noise to simulate a Markovian bath.
  • Simulated the energy transfer dynamics numerically using both quantum trajectory and master equation methods and drew the equivalence between them. Figured out the condition for vibration assisted energy transfer in the presence of decoherence.
  • Studied the spontaneous synchronization of mode displacements between two modes due to environmental dephasing and its relationship with energy transfer.
  • Published works: two-site and three-site.
Vibrational Spectrum of Cholesterol Derivatives
Supervisor: Jinqing Huang (HKUST)
Sept. 2017 – Jun. 2018
  • Employed Density Function Theory (DFT) to optimize the structure and compute vibrational normal modes of the molecules.
  • Conducted IR and Raman spectroscopy experiments and elucidated the result in comparison with theoretical prediction and literature values.
  • Achieved effective recognition of each molecule by the vibrational structure.
